Dispensing IPANEX

Ipanex is a liquid admixture which can easily be added to concrete during the batching process or at the job site. Ipanex is added at a rate of 13.8 ounces per hundred weight of cement. Ipanex must be kept from freezing prior to use.

Note: When possible, IPA Systems, Inc. recommends that Ipanex be added to the concrete at the batch plant. It is simpler and provides for better quality control of the concrete. Ipanex and the pump systems have been used very successfully in both "central mix" and "dry mix" concrete plants as well as in a number of precast plants.

At the Ready Mix Plant or Precast Plant:
Ipanex is added to concrete using a metered pump system designed to deliver the material from the tote in which it is shipped into the concrete truck, concrete batch plant or precast plant mixer. A Badger meter and independent control box, described below, dispense the predetermined amount of Ipanex into the concrete. Should the concrete yardage or mix design change between batches, the amount of Ipanex dispensed can easily be changed from the control box.

If Ipanex is added at the "front of the load" or during the batching process, no additional concrete mixing time is required. If it is added at the "back of the load," the manufacturer recommends adding five minutes of concrete mixing time to insure that the material is thoroughly mixed throughout the concrete.

The pumps are air powered or electric driven, as are the mixers which mount on the totes to pre-mix the Ipanex.

IPANEX Metered Pump and Mixer
The Ipanex metered pumping system was designed to dispense a predetermined amount of Ipanex from the tote in which it is shipped, into the concrete truck, concrete batch plant or precast plant mixer. The pump suction tube is attached directly to the outlet of the tote with a camlock fitting that requires no tools. The automatic timing counter located in the control box is set to control the amount of Ipanex to be dispensed. When the timing counter is satisfied, the pump stops. An air powered or electric mixer which mounts on the tote is provided to pre-mix Ipanex.

At the Job Site:
When Ipanex is to be added at the job site, have it shipped in 5-gallon pails or 55-gallon drums. The material must be pre-mixed prior to its addition to the concrete. This is accomplished simply through use of a drill and paddle type mixer. After the material is pre-mixed, measure the correct dosage and manually add it to the back of the concrete truck. The concrete must then be mixed for five minutes to insure that the material is thoroughly mixed throughout the concrete prior to placement.
