FAQ

What is Ipanex?
Ipanex is an admixture designed to waterproof concrete and provide corrosion control against severe elements that can damage a concrete structure.  It is an inorganic concrete admixture that severely restricts water and chloride penetration and protects reinforcing steel against corrosion.

How does Ipanex work?
When mixed into portland cement, Ipanex protects your structure against corrosion by forming a complex, homogeneous microstructure that inhibits the flow of water and chloride but still allows the structure breathe.

Why does that protect my concrete structure?
Without water, corrosion cannot occur. By limiting the amount of water and salt that penetrate concrete, Ipanex makes the concrete more durable - by making it less permeable.

What will it do to the appearance of concrete?
Ipanex does not adversely affect any of the physical properties of concrete. Concrete looks the same. Ipanex will, however, reduce shrinkage cracking, lower the temperature of the hydration process and make placing and finishing easier.

How long does Ipanex last?
Because it becomes part of the microstructure, Ipanex lasts for the life of the concrete. Even more importantly, our studies show that concrete modified with Ipanex will last much longer than ordinary concrete. We have documented Ipanex-modified structures that show no corrosion after 20 to 25 years of service and more.

How do you use Ipanex?
Ipanex can be used in conjuction with other commercial admixtures, such as air entrainment, superplasticizers, accelerators, retarders or pozzolans. Ipanex is a liquid that can be added at the batch plant, pre-caster's facility or, if circumstances require, at the job site. Bulk delivery and metering available.

How is Ipanex different from other products?
Ipanex is unique from other admixtures. Composed of C-S-H, it has the same chemical and mineralogical structure that gives portland cement its properties. The seeds that make up Ipanex - which control the nucleation and growth of the microstructure in concrete - are measured in the tens of nanometers. This "nano-control" of concrete's microstructure has never before been attained. Ipanex has set a new industry standard for high-performance concrete and is the only technology that controls a concrete structure at the nanotechnology level.
